My Fig8's are eating the snails but only the tiny ones. Also, it's sucking out the inside part only not the shell so it won't help grinding the teeth. Are my puffers a bit too small to be fed snails?

My boys are a bit shy of an inch in length.

I feed my freshwater dwf puffer snails and he's not much bigger than 3/4 of an inch.

They will tackle the size they can. My puffer tried to get the big apples snails I had in the tank.

You'd be surprised what they'll try to go after.

The general rule is feed snails the size of the puffers eye. F8's are not as bad as some puffers (SAP's) for teeth growth. I have my F8 tank in my bedroom and I can hear it chomp the shell when I feed snails, very noisy, but if I feed too big snails it will just suck it from the shell.

Its best to start feeding them snails as soon as they'll take it. Which is at a very young age. Like Jflowers said, the general rule is to feed puffers snails the size of their eye or smaller. Any bigger they'll just suck it out of their snail.

What you can do if you cant find snails small enough for them to eat, is carefully crush it with your fingers and then either stick it on the glass or just put it on the bottom for them to find. The puffers will eat the snail, and because there's no way around the shell, they'll eat this too.
