I have recently bought 2 Freshwater needle fishes(potamorrhapis guianensis)and although they have settled in fine the only thing i can get them to eat is river shrimp. In the wild they eat small fish, frogs and basicly anything thy can fit in their beak  .Will they suffer in the long term from a shrimp only diet or should i start WWIII with the mrs by insisting they be fed live fish (guppies and the like). :(

How long have you had the fish?I know some fish will resent unfamiliar foods especially when in a new enviorment.Id suggest keep giving them the shrimp with a mixture of other foods then after a while cut down on the shrimp they should come around.Good luck. :shifty:

Ive had them about a month now and they still only take shrimp, they're in a kind of large community tank (large catfish, siver sharks, polypterus ect)so they see plenty of other kinds of food ,both live and frozen, but if dosen't swim they won't eat it

Hi cfc ;)

Can you check with the lfs to see what they were feeding them???

:)

Already done, were feeding on river shrimp and small live bearers(guppies mainly i thnk) :( :-( .But did asure me they would eat frozen lance fish and bloodworm lying sods
