i have a 10 gallon for tetras mixed guppies, the problem is my guppies have no problem going up to get food and stuff to eat, but my tetras never seem to be able to get the food... they nevre go up and try to find it, they only wait on the bottom for food that floats DIRECTLY IN FRONT OF THEM, i use flakes cuz i dont raise live foods...like worms, brine shrimp etc.. so what should i do? im afraid they'll starve, what should i do?

hi,
we've got 7 neons + 6 cardinals & sometimes some of them are a bit slow to go up for food - try dipping some of the flake in the water instead of just sprinkling it on top so it sinks quickly & they will have a better chance of getting some esp if you sprinkle some as well to distract your guppies . or ours like nibbling on some of the tablet food we use, specially the ones that tend to dissolve quickly like king british fish treats. dont know if you can get them but our tetras always nibble on them. might be worth a try. they also seem to nibble on hikari sinking wafers too.
good luck :)

ahve the tetras recently been added to the tank? i'v noticed a lot of my new fish can't eat for the first day or two, while they settle in. But after they're settled they have no problem finding food themselves

Every small tetra (and several other small mouthed fish) i've ever had has eagerly accepted the Hikari micropellets. They are slow sinking and will eventually settle to the bottom where the tetras and bottom dwellers will pick at them. Tetra makes a similar granulated food but i prefer the Hikari. They also take flake released underwater so it sinks.

thankx, the flake thing worked, but im gonna need to buy those pellets and those sinking things for them tomororw cuz im going on a week vacation thankx! now im a bit less nervous about leaving them with my brother xp
