Yeah, start breeding spiders!
It'll be creepy, but hey. How much young do they get? Whoa, around 100+?
Stocked for months! :)
Also, new west? awesome. ;) Where do you get your fishes? Big Al's in burnaby?

I never buy my fish from the big als there. they have the worst looking fish ive ever seen every time i stop by to check it out. tank after tank of sick/dying/sad fish :( breaks my heart.

I usually go to King Ed's on kingsway or even the petcetera in new west has awesome healthy fish. 2 for 1 as well there :)

what about you? I hear Rogers aquarium store there on scott rd is suppose to be really good. Im goin to stop by there soon to check things out.

Hmm, may sound stupid but have you thought about the venom side of things? They all have the stuff and while there are not very many spiders over this side of the pond that will hurt when they bite I wouldn't be too sure about any consequences to the fish...

House spiders. Those are venomous.
only if you're unlucky, run into a pair of venomous ones. :shout:
Whats that spider, daddy long legs. something like that. Those can be fed, can't they? I heard some people have fed 'em.

daddy long-legs are not spiders so I guess it would be like feeding protein packed peas

Yeah I believe house spiders can bite over here but it is rare. Personally I wouldn't feed 'em they don't do any harm and I kind of like them :)

Daddy long legs are not spiders????? what are they then as they sure look/walk/ and act like spiders.

Spiders are apparently good in the house as they eat bugs and other insects.

:/ I'm in guildford area in surrey. No big LFS in my area, except either going to Big Al's, or petsmart/petcetera in Vanc. never checked petsmart, but petcetera just sucks. ):
Their fish department is small imo, compared to others.

I go to just one of those local ones you find in a mall. 8-| :shifty:

@top post : I freaked looking at that picture. ):
But seriously, could someone explain how its not an arachnid? Much appreciated, maybe a good life lesson for me. O:

U should check out king ed pet store on kingsway and edmonds. Its got lots of good healthy fish and tons of equipt/food etc at super low prices...its closer to you than big als or the stores in van, worth checking out forsure.

sorry bout the pic too lol its a massive spider

I believe that picture I posted is a true arachnid daddy long legs spider. In the UK i think they have a big fly type thing called a daddy long legs. I googled it and it looks lke what we call a "leather jacket" or a "crane fly" here in Canada

I guess it got confusing with the 2 different cultures.

Yeah, they're known as harvestmen, they're nontoxic.

harvestmen do have venom but can not bite humans...quite venomous actually...a "true" daddy longlegs is a spider...iften found in damp dark places like the basement...they have elongated abdomens...not round like garden spider, wolf spiders, and most common ones found in the house. they do dot have wings...HARVESTMEN are insects...they have six legs not eight like arachinds. two pairs attached to the abdomen, and one little short pair up front (that look like its fangs).

Wrong on both counts. Harvestmen are venomless arachnids. Link.

I think the confusion here is over the fact that three different groups of animals are known as daddy-long-legs; Cellar spiders, harvestmen and crane flies all share this common name. All are harmless to people, the idea that they are highly venomous but cannot break human skin is an urban legend.

--wait, what city? :) Streets?
Sorry, i'm not used to the streets there. ):

o sorry- kingsway starts at the burnaby/new west boarder and goes all the way through most of vancouver, I thought you would know kingsway. any way King Ed is on kingsway and edmonds st in burnaby not far from the surrey bridge... check it out if your ever in burnaby or new west. I get all my fish from there. Going tomarrow to get my tiger barbs and RTBS :)

glad to see some people in vancouver are on this board! :D
i live in richmond and i work at big als in richmond.

I never buy my fish from the big als there. they have the worst looking fish ive ever seen every time i stop by to check it out. tank after tank of sick/dying/sad fish sad.gif breaks my heart.

i resent that comment we try to keep our fish in top shape! jk you have your right to dislike them. i dont know how they run things in burnaby :shifty:

anyway i agree king ed is a great store for fish they have a large selection of fresh and saltwater fishes. looks a little old but hey if they have nice looking fish that's all i care about!
another store that i've had pretty good experience at is petsmart oddly enough. their fishes almost always survives (i've had maybe 1 mysterious death in 30 fishes i got from them)

as for the spider debate, i've always wanted to try feeding spiders but haven't seen one crawling around for years. i've tried feeding my cichlids silverfish before but they didn't even glance at it :/

Common house spiders in Britain are some sticklegged spider with a small body which is browny/black. They're not venamous.

Sorry for going off topic but can you feed your gouramis water skieers (the insects that stand on the water), or moths.

What mosquitos do you feed them?

Are we on mozzies now? I would say you can definately kill and feed these to fishes... especially in the larval stage! Can't imagine disease being transmitted but I guess it is possible.

Last summer I had a bucket and noticed the Larvae were lying along the surface of the water. This suggests they were possibly Anopholese and potentially malaria carriers  Needless to say they went straight into the tank and the fish loved 'em :D

@TylerFerretLord regarding the pea body spiders I thought they weren't spiders in the true sense because they don't have segmented bodies...?
