Ive just seen massive dead spider layin on the steps here and it got me thinking if I could, not nessisarly, feed the dead one to my fish but if I caught some live ones, would it be alright to feed them some juicy spiders?

Has anyone ever done it and if so, did your fish enjoy them?

These would just be "house" spiders so I doubt they would be venomous...

How're you gonna get it to the tank? of course you're going to track some debris into the tank too. And how did the spider die? possible parasites?

(Just things to think about.)
Usually, they aren't harmful. I fed my fish once it, but it hated it. ):

lol i never thought how id get them to the tank. I dont really like spiders as they are SCARY but the little ones i could probably scoup in a cup and drop it in...As for the debris im sure a little in the tank is fine. Most likely just pet hair will get in and there is already enough of that in the tanks(drives me crazy).

I guess now that you mentioned it I would be worried that they may have parisites or other bacteria I wouldn't want my fish to contract.

pS im in new west ;) 10 minutes from you.

Some fish will eat small spiders but most people don't use them as a food source. The problem is most spiders are too big for most common fish and don't get eaten. However, if you breed a non-venomous spider and have heaps of young, you could use them as food for the fish.
Aphids, fruit flies, weevils, ants, and mozzie larvae are all commonly used insect foods for fish.

Cut the spider up and drop it in. I occasionally cut a spider in half and drop it in as a treat to my shrimp and fish.

Yeah, start breeding spiders!
It'll be creepy, but hey. How much young do they get? Whoa, around 100+?
Stocked for months! :)
Also, new west? awesome. ;) Where do you get your fishes? Big Al's in burnaby?

Hmm, may sound stupid but have you thought about the venom side of things? They all have the stuff and while there are not very many spiders over this side of the pond that will hurt when they bite I wouldn't be too sure about any consequences to the fish...

House spiders. Those are venomous.
only if you're unlucky, run into a pair of venomous ones. :shout:
Whats that spider, daddy long legs. something like that. Those can be fed, can't they? I heard some people have fed 'em.

daddy long-legs are not spiders so I guess it would be like feeding protein packed peas

Yeah I believe house spiders can bite over here but it is rare. Personally I wouldn't feed 'em they don't do any harm and I kind of like them :)

Daddy long legs are not spiders????? what are they then as they sure look/walk/ and act like spiders.

Spiders are apparently good in the house as they eat bugs and other insects.

This is something i've pondered myself, the feeding of insects to my fish. I know during the summer I would frequently toss in some mosquiteos that I had killed for my gourami's, and they tended to gobble them up pretty fast. They're the only insects i've fed to my fish though. There was one time when a spider had fallen into my community tank, and one of my tetras had grabbed ahold of it and had it hanging out of it's mouth for about 20 minutes cause the spider was too big for it to eat. Eventually he spit it out and it got sucked into my filter, so I just scooped it out.

No, they are a winged insect like a dragonfly. Spiders are arachnids.
