okay I'm trying to do some research and coming up with so many things,

i have got some cucumber to give to my plec and other fish see if they like and eat it :) but i am in two minds on how to store the food i was thinking freezing it, and how to prepare it for going into the tank i have seen websites put it in boiling water for 10 mins before putting into tank and one saying just bung it in as it is, if people use veg what do you guys do and is freezing it a gd idea just os i can keep one whole cucumber fresh'ish over a week, i was going to slice down the middle then cut those pieces into 3 so i have 6 pieces of cucumber to put in one a day, unsure if to spoon out the pips in the middle?

Cucumber has very little nutrients.
Courgette would be better
I think you slice them, then Blanche them before freezing.
To feed fresh, I just slice it then blanch it.
My Oto's love it.
They also like broccoli stalks & green beans

cool thnx what is blanche sorry i shall use the cucumber this week then il get courgette net haha :D

Dont freeze it as it goes mushy. It will last for a week in the fridge and even if it goes a little soft it does not matter. Just put it in a cup of boiling water for a few mins then stick a spoon in it and in it goes.

okay i have looked it up on google n that if i am right boil the cucumber/corrgete for around 20 to 30 seconds take it out put into iced water till cool then either give to fish or freeze?

just another question once its frozen can i then just put the frozen stuff into the tank or let it melt? before i put it in?

I didn't blanch mine at first, but they like it better when it's gone a bit soft.
I've never frozen it, but I think it'd be best defrosted before you put it in

sorry few more posts as i was posting mine okay got you i shall give a few things ago if fridge will do i shall use that then :D haha

okay i was thinking to weight the piece down don't really want to use a fork XD so would using a kebab skewer work? with a weight on the end, got to find a weight for it tho, maybe from a fish tackle shop, would work? anyone else got any ideas?

i would prefer a more natural look kidna thing i.e. kebab skewer is wood so not so obvious where as a fork is well ye its not the best IMO :D :D

My platys love it too.
You'll have a lot of green poo to syphon out the next day lol

Once it's quite soft it tends to stay down, so anything you have to weigh it down initially would do.
You could use a small piece of slate if you have some

I don't blanche mine, I just chuck it in with a fork through it.

Or a screwcumber, google it and should be able to find them no prob :hyper:
