Hi guys

My newly cycled tank (32G) is doing fine with my 4 platys (lost one but LFS replaced it for free as my water was perfect) and my 2 Siamese Algae eaters.

Those little SAE have cleaned the tank of all the algae within 4 days or so, they are absolutely brilliant! But now I'm a bit worried they arent getting enough food so I dropped in a couple of algae tabs.

But the problem is that the SAE dont just stay on the bottom, they are whizzing all over the tank cleaning up algae wherever they find it, and so my 4 platys have nipped down to the bottom and started munching on the algae tabs. They are bigger than my 2 little SAE and I'm worried they wont get a chance to eat.

Also the SAE dont appear to be nocturnal so I'm not sure that dropping the algae tabs at night would help either.

Any advice guys???

Try feeding the other fish first so that when the wafers are dropeed in the others have no interest in them. I am sure though that they are getting anough food..

Thanks Losi

However, thats what I did this morning and the Platys ate the flake then started on the wafers!!!

The thing is the SAE are usually busy elsewhere on the glass or bog wood and dont go straight to the gravel. By which time the platys have started munching the algae tabs. :X

Oh well, will just have to leave them to it!!!

Same thing happens w/ my fish. In one the platies eat the pleco's food, and in the other they eat the CAE's food. I feed them quite a lot (I can afford to seeing as how I have bottom feeders and other fish that sometimes feed on the bottom). I tried adding spinach yesterday, but none of the fish seemed interested in it this morning, though I checked mnutes after turning on the light.

I can't help you out as of yet, but if I find somehting out, I'll tell you. :D

When i feed my 2 cories algae tabs, i break in up into several bits around the tank to seperate the food and it gets eaten sparingly. But your not the only one with fish that eat off the bottom. I have barbs(messy little buggers  ) and guppies and the crumbs that come off these guys when eating off the tabs create perfect sized bites for my cories and neons. Most often there will be crumbs in the gravel that u cant see but your algae eaters definately can taste(you'll see them agressively eating at one spot). Also i find my cories love shrimp pellets, but they should be fine with the algae in ur tank and the tabs.
Hope all goes well :D

I had a simliar problem with my mollies eating catfish pellets, so I put the bloodworms in first then while the mollies are eating that put the pellets in, Hey I dropped a algae pellet on the floor the other day, my cat loved it and started begging for more
