Hi, wondered if anyone could give me any suggestions. I am going on holiday in about 5 five weeks and haven't got anyone to feed my little ADF. He normally has frozen blood worms but not sure if he would eat regular fish flakes and then maybe i could buy a holiday block or something. Any ideas welcome. Thanks

How long are you going to be gone? Dont use feeder blocks they are useless and pollute your tank. When I go out of town as long is it less than 2 weeks I just leave my fish and my frogs, they are fine. In the wild they would often go days without food. If it is less than 2 weeks, just feed them regularly and turn off all the lights when you go and they will be fine. You risk more when you have people come and feed your fish/frogs.

The frogs are okay for two weeks as well? I knew that most fish are fine in that time frame. But whenever I fail to feed my frogs in like a four or five day period, I usually end up with a dead frog. :/

I am going away for 2 weeks. I had arranged for someone to feed them but now they can't. Everyone seems to be on holidays at same time! Was wondering if anyone had used one of those feeders that you can put a timer on? But not sure if i could put frozen blood worms in it cos they might go bad. Any thoughts appreciated

Yes 2 weeks is pushing it as I was hoping it would be under 2 weeks. However, I have yet to come home from a holiday with dead frogs even after a week and a half. Im sorry you have had a different experience. 2 weeks is iffy though for the frogs and frozen bloodworms wont work in one of those automatic feeders....hmmmm...Will the frogs eat anything else? They make sinking frog pellets and my frogs eat those sinking shrimp pellets. If they will take those I would put some of those in an automatic feeder and put it on a low setting, you only need it to feed a tiny bit. Also, before you leave try the automatic feeder somehwere safe to make sure it doesnt go haywire or fail. Thats my best idea.

Thanks for your advice :good: Think i will try the sinking pellets that sounds like a good idea and the automatic feeder. I have 5 weeks before i go so have plenty of time to try it out. Thanks again

The only thing i could find in the pet shop was tropical fish pellets. Are these the same?
The shop where i bought my little froggie from has closed down and we have nowhere nearby that sells them so have no one to ask for advice

Are they sinking pellets? If the frogs will take them it will be ok while your gone as it will provide some kind of nutrtion. I would just try them first and make sure the frogs will take them. Good luck and let us know how it goes...

I'd say try to adapt him to eating flakes or you could try freeze dried bloodworms which Im sure wouldn't go bad in an automatic feeder situation. Problem is that some sinking pellets do pollute the water quite a bit.

Freeze dried bloodworms dont sink so there goes that. I have hever seen one of my frogs get close to a flake so I dont think that would work. A few sinking frog pellets wont pollute the water if the frogs eat them

i left my ADF's for 5 days when away, i feed bloodworms and glass worms mixed together before i left, and they ate a load of that. huge bellies. and when i came home 5 days later, they were both still alive and well, didnt look thin or ill. and i fed then the day i came home (it was late but didnt matter) and they frogs are fine,
so i can say if fed well before leaving, ADF's can safely be left for 5 days, but ofcourse if one does die, it could be either old, weak, water quality or something else (dont blame me if it does die is what i mean)

I have had some success  I fed my frog some of the pellets with the baster (he usually has the bloodworms fed with this) and he ate some of them. So will continue over the next few weeks to get him used to them. But the only problem is i'm not sure if he will eat them if not fed with baster as he is so used to it. Will put some in the automatic feeder though and see what happens :D

:good: Sounds like everything is going to work out. Let us know, so we know your frogs made it.
