I want to try to feed my Severum fresh veggies such as zucchini and lettuce. Can I feed any type of lettuce ? Do you need to cook it first ?
Thanks

I'm not sure about using certain types of lettuce, but I've been told you should rinse it, soak it in boiling water for about 10 seconds, then rinse in cold again. This kills any bacteria etc, and softens the leaf a bit too. Doesn't harm my fish - cucumber is a favorite with my fish, too.

you can feed them most fruits and vegetables, but avoid onions and their relatives, and potatoes.
Any lettuce can be used as can spinach or silverbeet. Just make sure they don't have any chemicals on them. The idea of dipping them in hot water for a few seconds is to soften the leaf making it more palatable for the fish.

Thank you ! I blanched some red leaf lettuce and no interest there. I will try some cucumber or zucchini tommorow. I am having a hard time figuring out what this guy wants to eat. So far it is peas and a pellet here and there. At 7.5" he needs to eat better !

you can blanch it, nd yes im pretty sure you can feed them lettuce

I never cook or even blanch the vegetables for my fish, crabs, snails, etc – but I would recommend washing under the tap, as you never know what chemicals have been sprayed on them.
I do a veggie kebab of assorted fruit and vegetables on a sharpened, bamboo chop-stick. This way, you can see what they go for, it's easy to remove, and there is no chance of anything floating away to rot behind a rock at the back.
