Hey people,

So I just recently got fancy guppies, and I was wondering how much and how often I should feed them. I give them a pinch of flakes every night, but most times in the afternoon I noticed they look for food at the bottom of the tank. I also drop in algae wafers or shrimp pellets for my loaches which they nibble at as well. Should I feed them flakes more often, like twice a day instead of just once?

I only feed mine once a day, but guppies are scavengers and will eat till they burst, just make eure you use a good quality food to really make their colors pop, throwing in some veggies once in awhile is good too, zucchini, lettuce, dehusked softened peas, couple pinches once a day and they and your loaches will clean up the excess

Hi, is your filter cycled? If yes, how exactly did you cycle it? (For example, by adding household ammonia until you got double zeros for 7 days in a row.)

It is normal for fish to look for food all the time, especially fish like guppies. Assuming your filter is fully cycled, you can feed up to twice per day, as much as they will completely finish in 30-60 seconds. It is good for the fish if you do not feed at all on one day every week. It is also better for them if you feed a variety of different dry foods instead of just one type of flake. For example, I feel generic flakes, tabs, granules, crisps, various frozen foods and various foods that I make up myself.

If you are in UK and want to try out a few different foods, I can send you some of the ones that I use and make as it would be cheaper than buying loads of different ones in tubs, especially as foods don't last that long once opened.
