I recently got a male Betta, and I purchased the Betta pellets for food for him. It says to feed him 2-3 times a day. That seems like a lot. I have and have always had bigger tanks, I've always fed my fish once a day and my tanks do very well. Is there a reason that Betta's need to eat so much. I've been feeding him like 4-5 pellets (which are very small) twice a day, but I would like to put him on a once a day feeding with my other tank. Is that OK? Do Betta's need to eat at least twice a day for some reason?

Also, I have him in a 5 gallon tank, I know they are fighting fish and cannot be with most other fish. Is there any fish that are safe for both the Betta and the other fish to be together? He looks so little in that tank, would he be happier with other fish, or are Betta's really happier when they are alone?

I would appreciate any advise anyone can give me...thanks

He will be fine to be fed once a day (I think normal fish food says you should feed 2 times a day anyway). No matter what the feeding schedule a fish will get used to it. All of my bettas are fed once per day.

The fish will be ok alone, some do fine with other fish, some don't. In a 5 gallon tank I'd say just keep the betta in there. He will fill the tank up and he will grow. I forget how small they are sometimes but they do grow. Mine both fill their tanks out (10 and 14 gallons).
