Hi guys, first off PLEASE no opinions,morals,pros/cons,nutritional info or negativity!!!
Can you get feeder fish in the uk? If so any ideas where?
Thanks in advance.

i've never seen any near me, and i'm glad :good:

In the UK, the Animal Welfare Act 2006 prohibits deliberate and “unnecessary suffering” to animals, but contrary to widespread belief, it does not explicitly outlaw the feeding of live feeder fish to other fish. However, it does prohibit introducing two animals for the purpose of fighting, wrestling or baiting.

Although the use of feeder fish is fairly common in the US, in the UK it is much less common, with aquarists and hobby magazines in Britain generally rejecting the use of feeder fish as being unnecessary and likely to cause health problems.

I think that it is illegal to purchase feeder fish in the UK
Ive seen seapets feed neon tetras to their silver needlefish and after reading quite alot aalong as you dont cause exess harm and the death of 1 leads too another living its ok. I COULD be wrong but im pretty sure its just very dimly viewed. Thankyou anyways.

Please keep opinions in a seperate thead, i dont want an arguement.
Thats a simplified version of what ive read with regards to animal welfare. Thanks

my opinion would be "in my opinion feeder fish are wrong". For all anyone else knows, the reason i'm glad i haven't seen feeder fish in my area could be because one attacked me once... :good:

We don't need to argue about something quite small, so lets agree to disagree :good:

If you need them you could raise them yourself, guppies are the easiest, if not, most of my lfs have guppies in for around a pound you could just get a couple, you wont find a tank full of goldfish crammed up anywhere here in the uk though.

I did do tue guppy thing for a while but turned their 4 footer into a mbuna tank lol. Thankyou for the thought. Ive never seen fish like that but wondered if anyone else had. Probably not going to get anywere with this am i really. Thanks again though.

I know you can't feed live prey to reptiles unless it's things like crickets or something. Never seen bait fish for sale here though. What sort of thing are you looking to feed? Guppy sized stuff? Or bigger?

With snakes its illegal to feed live mice except if the reptile will not eat and its a last resort thing and only if the reptile is losing weight.
Not sure if its the same with fish though....

I was just really wondering if you can buy specifically feeders for the price. At the minute i could only use fry as feeders. I have angelfish, hondaraun red points and a 3-4" oscar that loved guppy fry lol.

Thinking about it, I know one shop that sells feeders in the uk....
