helo i have bred my bettas several times and the method i use is like most except for one thing and i was just wondering if anyone else does it this way??

i take the bettas and stick a male and female in the same 10 gallon aquarium they breed and i take out the female and then in two days the male then i put in water hyacinths from my fish pond i cut off the tops and just stick in the roots u can c all kinds of baby snails and baby mosquitos and little bloodworms and little white things that i dont know what they are but the betta fry love them!! and then every week i put another in their to replentish the food the water in the tank stays extremely clear because their is plenty of bacteria in the aquarium though their may be lots of debris on the bottom but i just wanted to put this method out their for peps to comment on and to c if anyone else has been successful with this method????? it is much easier than brine shrimp

Sounds good to me if you have a pond to get the stuff, unfortunately most people don't. I personally wouldn't go to a creek or wild pond in my area as I live in a very populated area and I wouldn't trust there to be no pesticides and bad stuff from all the smog, gas fumes etc. But I do think it's a great idea if you have a trustworthy source, it's very natural and I'm sure VERY healthy for the fry. I bet you get great growth rate too? I imagine that would be very similar to the outside spawning/raising system and letting nature feed the spawn (a very successful method used by many people).

yea i agree i wouldnt get them out off a lake either but thanx 4 ur opinion

how fast do they grow cuz it sounds like its really fast. i would try this but i have no pond :(

welll at first i was just getting a cup of water out of my pond from where the filter is and feeding it to them but their was no little bugs or n e thing in it but then i thought about the hyacinths and tried them and they are like fish miracle grow also i am kind of experimenting and i put baby mollies and guppies of the same size in the fry tank with the bettas and they all seem to be doing great i wonder if it will make the bettas more tolerant of other fish when grown????? has anyone ever tried this before????oh and the bettas grow what seems like another foot every time i put another hyacinth in

ps if u went to ur local nursery they could probly sale u some hyacinths that u wouldnt have to worry about poison

i've had a fair bit of success with betta breeding and i have one method and that is to hard boil an egg and remove the yolk, leave it to cool and then break a small piece of it off and put it in a clean rag and gently swish it through water until you see a little cloud of yolk burst through the rag.Do this twice a day. i have always fed the little uns this way and it has worked everytime, you obviously rarely get the entire batch of betta's through to maturity but i have always got good numbers this way.
