I've had my tank running about 2-3 weeks now so its still cycling . I do regular water changes but this last week I'm getting this green stuff on my sand .... it looks awful ! I posted last week and was told to move the sand and cover up the green but when I do it gets buried and is back in the morning ! Also my sand is not lovely and sandy coloured any more its kind of grainy with black and green bits all over and looks awful ! I liked it to start but its really high maintenance ( or am I doing it wrong ? ) should I change to gravel and if I do will it affect my cycle and how should I do it ? HELP !!

You are doing nothing wrong, when the tank has cycled the algae will diminish, slowly, but it will.

Hi,

yeah I get that to... Im afraid I sill have it.. I have LOADS of algue... but I don't mind the fish don't seem to care aswell!

Just ignore it for awhile. Once you put some fish in there get a algae eater of some kind, we will probably be very happy to take care of your problem

ok , thanks ! what kind of algae eater would you suggest ? should I only get one or a pair ? My tank is 3 foot and I have no specific ideas about what to stock at the moment .

I'm not sure if it was your thread i replied on - but if it is a very thin 'carpet' on the sand, get some more water flow the the bottom of the tank.

We get it from time to time - just a quick adjustment and its gone the next morning.

Well it depends on what kind of a tank you plan on having. (species wise)

A pleco (there are a lot of smaller species you could put in that size tank) would work well. So would a bunch of otos, like 4 of them.

well , got livebearers at the moment . Would like something colourful but don't really know ! I just go to the lfs and see if theres anything colourful and pretty and ask if its compatible with what I've got .Possibly some angels or something but I don't know if my tank is big enough ! I don't really know really was told to get these fish to cycle .

Otos would probably be your best bet with livebearers. Not REALLY colorful but they are a cool fish that has a nice pattern on them.
