Fed Mosquito Larvae To My Betta

Noor, in some areas in North America and Europe you can't go outside without being practically eaten alive by mosquitos at certain times in the Summer. There the only problem feeding the larvae to fish in your aquarium would be if your area is being sprayed with pesticides that will then be present in the larvae and could hurt your fish, or even kill them.

Dengue fever is only a problem in tropical countries!

had dengue fever once.

i pretty much feed my betta mosquito larvae for revenge

Revenge?  ok its cracking me up again. Thanks for making me laugh. great medicine.
omg.....that not good and being hospitalised. I thought you are joking around. oops....my bad. sorry

nah. Im better. got it last year. REVENGE!!!

yes.....glad to hear you are better. Revenge!! I hate mosquitoes here.

Agree agree agree, its a revenge to let them be eaten by bettas, he he!  But if this aedes mosquito bites you (especially in the tropical) off you go to the hospital.  And dengue can be very fatal.  Thats the reason why Singapore is so strict about it.  The enforcement officer will come knocking at your door to check your home for any mosquito larvae at least once a month.  If they can't check during office hours, they will come during weekend or in the evening.  And they do to all the households in the whole of Singapore.  The aedes mosquito does not breed at dirty and filthy water, but at clean water instead.  So be careful.

Anyway we arent living in the same part of the world, so your perception will certainly be different.

Well Im in Asia too. Philippines to be exact! (Hence the flag)

Well, we are near, just 4 - 5 hours apart but living in totally different environments.

How I wish to could feed my betta with the larvae, but I just can't.  Can't afford to pay the fine, he he!

And my only betta.

Dried Bloodworms are good for snacks too. I use it for my
Bettas and other small fish.

Out in the wild......wild fish eat insect of all kinds.

Dried blood worms are not good snacks especially for bettas.  They are bad to cause bloat and constipation issues for bettas plus they really are not very nutritious (kind of like candy).  If one is going to feed bloodworms, might as well feed frozen which is much better although it still needs to be kept at once or twice a week for feeding.

Coming from South Florida which has mosquito swarms - I can't stand mosquitos! I fed my beta [thawed] frozen blood worms yesterday and my husband still worries that somehow they could re-animate, escape the betta, and become mosquitos that would plague the house

In South Florida, they fly crop planes in areas with large mosquito populations. I forget at which government level, I think may-be county, they report which areas were sprayed - you might want to check that before you trust that your larvae are pesticide free.

Now that I moved to MA, there is a mosquito warning due to Equestrian Encephilitis (or something like that) and West Nile. Wherever you are, mosquitos are essentially dirty needles flying around and itch-causing pests. I wouldn't bother trying to feed my betta live larvae.

As for frozen blood worms - how many should I give in one feeding? I bought the little cubes that supposedly are "perfect for nano-aquariums" BUT I think there are over 100 larvae in each cube which is waaay too much for my 1 betta ... even splitting the cube between the betta and two ADFs. I'm aiming for a weekly treat.
