Favorite Barb?

I'm very surprised that more people haven't voted for the Denisoni Barb (Puntius denisonii). I have a small school of them (5) in my 180gal and they are very colourful and active.

I'm with Nick 16 and groovylime :)

I'm an uber barb fan personally.

I do like gold barbs and I LOVE clown barbs although I don't have any right now.

But my favourites have to lemon fin barbs (poropuntius malcolmi, also known as hypsibarbus wetmorei sometimes or barbus daruphani on some out of date websites).

Stunning to look at - they may be simple but they are beautiful as they grow. The size is prohibitive though - I have three at the moment, they are 11", 12" and 15" and still growing. Should hit somewhere around 24" nose to tail as adults!

I also love my other centrepiece fish - but not sure what they are. Previous thought was large scaled barbs (neolissichilus sumatranus) but they have exceeded the max size of 10" (11" at the mo) and look horribly identical to 'tor soro' (river barb I think - another tank buster at around 3ft). Again, simple but beautiful - with a good light they have hidden colours that shimmer when they turn.

I like the look of the odessa barbs. I am thinking of getting either Odessa barbs, Black ruby barbs or God barbs for my 70 litre tank, not sure which ones. Any suggestions??

Odessa barbs are nice, they get to around 5 cm. They are nice and active and a group of about 5 would look good in your tank... obviously it depends on what fish you already have though!

Cherry Barbs - hard to find at the LFS, but absolutley stunning and so peaceful. And they used to breed in my tank when I had them. They also controlled some of the algae and got on well with my neons.

Golden barbs are well greedy, mine got well fat, they grabbed more then thier fair share at feeding times :hyper:

 yep, mine did that when I had some! I may get some more soon, they have a great advantage over many barbs by being happy to live in an unheated tank - and I just happen to be sat at a desk next to a newly setup tank for two indoor goldfish.....

another vote for Red Line Torpedo Barbs here

these are some of mine (they used to belong to Jules H-T)

a big school of them in a 6 foot tank would look staggering B-)

My vote is for denisons / red line torpedo - very beautiful and so passive.
By the way does anyone know how long they take to reach full size? We have 5 and have had them about 4 months but they don't seem to growing that much despite being fed well!
