Father-son aquarium project. As much as I'd like to take credit, he was responsible for the... colorful interior design^_^

Right now we're set up with 6 cherry barbs, an amano, and 2 nerites. At the lfs you couldn't really tell the male from female- they're still juvenile I believe- though they're brightening up some. There's a lot of detritus in the water because we used fish food to cycle the tank at first, rather than pure ammonia, and the fish have kicked it up.

Current parameters:
ph 7.6
gh 9
kh 7
0 ammonia, nitrite, and 5 or so nitrate

Id say you have all female cherry barbs. I brought mine young from my LFS and could tell them apart straight away. My smallest male at the time was tiny but was cherry red🙂

Ah, a shame. I'm still holding out for a couple of males. Two seem to really be taking on a red color, but they all have those greyish-black horizontal lines going the length of their body, which I think is indicative of females. You're probably right and I'm being hopeful.

Well fingers crossed they colour up for you.

I started the hobby with a father-son project 3 or so years ago. My son still loves his tank. It was me who caught the bug big time tho, ive got 7 tanks now lol

Welcome!

Cherry barb's are such an underated fish, they are quite remarkable in appearance in my opinion and often overlooked due to their full shop colours. Your video has made me want to add a small group to my tank!

I wouldn't mind having a (small) bright tank like that.

I didn't think I would like Glofish Tetra, but my wife bought several some time ago and after we lost all but one and the rest of the community (Neons and Zebras) she wanted to just shut down our 125 G (not sure what we would have done with the lone Glofish). If we got any more fish, they had to be 'big', meaning the Glofish.

So now, we have 10 Glofish, 6 Buenos Aries, and 8 Corys. Once I get a proper quarantine tank, I'll likely add more Corys, maybe more of the Tetras too.
