anyone got any ideas? :-(
thanks

Hi,

How big is the tank? what other occupants? how long have you had them? is the tank cycled? What are the water stats for ammonia, nitrIte and nitrAte? what temp is the tank? Do you use dechlorinator? It could be a million things and we need a bit of background info first.

Emma :)

Hi, I saw another post where you mentioned treating your fish for white spot, I didn’t answer then because I didn’t want to put the knockers on you. The first two clown loaches I brought both got white spot & like you I treated with protozin which seemed to have cured them & all seemed fine, but then one disappeared after a couple of days I turned up their favourite cave & there it was brown bread a day or two later the other one was found the same way.
I spoke to a lady at my lfs & she explained that if you don’t catch white spot in time it spreads to their gills & stuff from where there is no coming back. I’m sure there are those on here who could explain in more detail, but there you have it lay-mans terms.

Essentially correct.

But the reality is even worse: it can start in the gills, in which case the fish may be very sick before you see any ich. Naturally, ich does much more damage in gills than on the fins.

Loaches are sensitive to most meds. Most people will tell you if you use meds to use at half strength. Others like me prefer using heat and salt treatment, its less stressful.
