I noticed yesterday that one of my gouramis is looking really swollen around his middle. Right around behind its gills (the area where all its organs are) I dont see any scales popping up... and its eating and looks fine. No marks on it at all.. nothing.

I recently lost a female guppy who started showing signs of dropsy. Her scales started to stick up under her belly and she was acting funny (she never swelled up).. not eating.. hiding out on the bottom corner of the tank. Then I think because she was sickly.. my puffer got her and she formed a hole under her belly and died shortly after. I hadn't treated cause I wasn't sure what was going on with her.

(And just so you know.. she was NEVER bothered by my puffer before this. Her tail was FULL and whole! No nips. I haven't had any trouble with my puff attacking my fish besides after she got sick)

Hi AmberC :)

Female gourmais usually look a bit plump ariund the middle, while the males are more streamlined. Are you sure your gourami isn't just a normal female?

MMM... no I think something is wrong. They all looked exactly the same up until the other night. Like it was obvious even to my husband cause he doesn't look at my fish often. I was able to get two pictures that are decent. In one the fish is turning so its kinda hard to see how its swollen but its gotten worse and I do see some scales popping up a little giving it this fuzzy look and its more swollen ITS right side, but the left side is too.

Heres the second pic where the fish it turning a little, but you can see its swollen underneath too.
