Hi,
On the question of large fanworms. Do soft corals such as Zoos, Rics and Mushrooms need to be kept away from them or is it fine to keep them in close proximity. Also any problems with hermits and snails in keeping one of these for a bit of diversity.
Many thanks for your replies

By the term fanworm I am assuming that is synonymous with tubeworm or feather duster. If that is the case, then I have several of these in my tank and they are fine. Crabs and snails are not an issue and soft corals like the Zoa and mushrooms etc are also fine. Stick em in a crevice in the rock work or the substrate near the rock and they do the rest. Remember they are filter feeders so you can use some coral food like Phytochrom to aided their nutrition.

Hope this helps

Regards

Yeah,
A bit misleading me calling them fanworms, but anyway you got the gist. Thats exactly the info I was looking for. I have a good size crevice in the rockwork to fill, but it will be surrounded by the aformentioned softies and I wondered if there would be a problem with positioning.
Many thanks CF.

A picture (oh how the tables have turned LOL) would be nice. But even without the picture I couldn't see you having much, if any, trouble with that arrangement.

No pics as yet this is for future reference as I am planning the species I want to keep and their relative positioning. One day their will be pics though. Keep watching the journal.

I don't recommend one for your tank BigC. I posted an index post on it. I imagine you can try. They don't do well in nano tanks for the most part. SH

PS...you can put them where you want. If they don't like it...they'll move themselves. SH

Hey SH is back woo hoo!! More people to answer my questions yay!! SH I thought the main issue was to make sure you fed them sufficiently?
My little ones are doing fine, they look after themselves for the most part. I feed my coral every three days and they presumably take what they need.

Fanworms feed on plankton. They are annelids for the most part. They require decent plankton feedings to stay healthy and the amount over time can affect water quality. If anyone can keep a Hawaiian feather duster alive for a long period of time, I recommend that they start a single thread on it. I don't know of many..if..any at all. SH
