I am asking bout fakaha, i hear these grow up to 16 to 18 inches in captivity.
just owndering, how long would or do they live for in cap

also, i am looking at one, hes had it for 7 years. its currently 6inches

do they gro wfast or slow?
is this size ok for this age?or should it be bgger?
what reason why its small?
is the growth permanently stunted nad will never get bigger?

hallo,

I've had my fahaka for over a year now.

Minimum tank size some people have as 4x2x2 but I personally think this isn't bit enough. My fahaka goes through stages of sitting on the substrate hiding in the plants (like they would in the wild, they hide in weed beds) and other times he'll be zooming all over the tank, inspecting and chasing everything including his reflection. I keep mine in a 5x2x2 150g. the dimensions are important, because some 150gs are considerably thinner. If I had the room, I would add another half foot in width to my tank, giving him more room still to turn.

There are lots of factors in the size of any fish, genetics, diet, water temperature and other environmental conditions, and to be honest, there is no sure fire way of saying what size what creature should be at what age.

After 7 years, i would expect it to be a bit bigger. i doubt mine is that old and he is currently just over a foot long, and since we've had him has probably grown a couple of inches lengthways, and definitely got a bit bulkier (although, I keep my fahaka a lot thinner than the ones you'll see photos of in most places!). As for whether or not it is stunted, the best thing you can do is provide the optimum conditions that they require, which is essentially good filtration, large tank (having a 75g and then planning to upgrade is never going to be the best thing for any fish that will grow large quickly) and a decent meaty diet of prawns, mussels, etc

Feel free to ask any other questions you might have!

hello

ok, so 6 or so inches for a 7 year old is generally small?
do you think it will grow bigger with good food and stuff?
cos i realy want one and where i am from, they are rare as helll!

but wether or not i want one thats smaller than it should be that has stunted growth is another question.

also interms of life span
10+ years, you mean ttheywill live longer than that given the right care?
or do they die or start to die after 10 yeras?

I would imagine that well looked after, they'd live well over ten years, probably more than twenty if well kept.

As for the size, it's up to you. if you think that the fish is worth the upkeep, then buy it. I can't say how much enjoyment you'll get from it! If it stays small, thats still not a horrific tragedy, it means if nothing else it would have more swimming space in a 150g.
