Hi all looking at my pleco this morning and his/her eye seems to be clouding over any idear at all.

Hi there, the pleco has an external bacterial infection called Cloudy Eye. You will need a med like Pimafix to treat the infection, but it is often brought about by less than ideal conditions in the aquarium, to treat the fish successfully and make sure the cloudy eye doesn't come back, conditions in the tank must be ideal etc, can you give us more info on your situation please;
a. Gallons/litres of the tank and its dimensions (length, width, height)
b. Types and numbers of the fish you have as well as their sizes roughly
c. How often do you do water changes on the tank and how much do you take out on average
d. Do you use dechlorinator
e. Is the tank heated (what temp) and filtered
f. What do you feed the fish and how much and how often
g. How often do you clean the substrate in the tank
h. Anything else you need us to know etc

?

Thanks for the info, your tank is around 30gals;

Dimensions 91 x 30 x 46cm/36" x 12" x 18
Surface area 0.27 sqm/2.91 sq ft/ inches sq in
Volume 127 l./28 gal. (33.55 US gal.)
Probable volume 114 l./25 gal. (30 US gal.)

I would advise doing a 30-60% water change once a week instead of once every 3 weeks, doing more regular water changes will have many benefets for the fish, from helping keep more stable nitrate levels, to lowering the levels of free-swimming parasites and harmful bacteria levels in the water in the tank, to helping fight the negative effects of long term evaporation on the tank etc. You should also ideally clean the substrate when you do your once-weekly water change as well (particularly if you keep any bottom dwelling fish), what type of substrate do you have (gravel, sand, pebbles etc)?
The water temp is only 18 degree's celcius? This is too cold for your fish, your fish are tropical fish which mean they do best in temps 24-28degree's C, keeping tropical fish in coldwater temps will effect their metabolism and shorten their life expectancies and make them more prone to deseases/parasites and digestion problems etc.

Do you know what type of pleco you have? There are hundreds of types of plecos, varying a great deal in dietry requirements, care, and what sizes they grow to- some plecos only grow to 3inches long, while others grow to over 3ft long. So its important to find out what type of pleco you have exactly to make sure you know you are caring for it properly :nod: .

Hi cheers for that i have no idear what sort it is but the size is roughly 12 inches long, the tank was given to me with all the fish in, i will alter the temp asap. iam using gravel small type came with tank.
