Hi all :)

I don't venture into the salty side very often but you guys are probably the people with the knowledge when it comes to external pumps. Basically I'm after an external pump rated around 2000-3000lph for my planted tank. It wont do any filtering as its purely for water movement. The only real specification I have is that its quite as it'll be in my sitting room and I can't have it humming away in the background.

I was initially looking at the eheim compact + range, perhaps the Compact +3000 but not sure on noise levels, if anyone has one and can advise? Or offer a good alternative?

Many thanks :)

They seem the best rang to go for external pumps but sorry cant say for noise! but ill be getting one soon and sureley let you know!!!

Is there a reason it has to be external and not internal? Hydor Koralias and Tunze Stream are great internal pumps. The Vortech might be overkill for that flow requirement ;)

Thanks for the advise, but I'm after minimal equipment in the tank really. OK they wouldn't be huge when in a 120cm but not the look Im going for, which as a sod because they would be prefect otherwise and the power consumption is minute in comparison.

Hello i shud have my eheim compact 5000+ tomorow! i will be useing it on the outside my sump!!! so will let you know how loud it is!

Bargain, that would be much appreciated :)

So how are you going to plumb this pump? Bulkheads, or over-the-top piping?

Over the top pipes, with glass intakes and outlets, simple and effective. Gives me the flexibility to move it around then if needs be.

Hopeing to get mine today! but i wil defo let you know what the noise is like once recived!

Edit: doesnt look like its going to be today! so fingers crossed for tomorow!

Just to let anyone who's interested know, that I got the eheim 3000+ compact, which I hook up last night, and its very quite, and barely noticeable when placed in side the cabinet on its own. When my eheim 2080 is running its impossible to hear it. Flow is very good too, got it running at the full 3000lph and it seems to be working a treat.

Consider this a strong recommendation for this superb pump.

Glad to hear that worked out for you. So you're just using it exclusively for circulation and movement? Seems like a bit of a waste of function but oh well. You could always mod it so you could use that excess space in the canister for a heater.

Sorry I'm not following? The compact 3000+ is just a pump, there is no filter function to it, so yeh just for circulation :)

Ive got the eheim 2080 running as the filter, which has media in for my bio, mech and chem filter if thats what you mean?
