trust me the way you have it set up is a waste of time you sould put one on each filter if you have 2

as it is now you are not gaining anything if one fails it might be the one that has the most flow going throw it which means you might only be heating up 10% of the returned water

I’m afraid I’m not up for a debate on this one; I can see what your saying but I prefer the way I have it set up. I work as an Engineer and know a thing or two about flow rates.

well unless your filter has sat-nav how does it know which heater to turn into when one fails it doesnt take a Engineer to work out its pointless the way its set up
:D

Well looks like I’m going to have to go back on my word and debate it then. You really think there is going to be much difference in flow between the two pipes????? :sly: I doubt it but tested it any way....

I have turned each heater off for one day and the temp was still stable. Thus they must both be getting similar flows.

OR

If they weren’t getting similar flow rates the fact that I still retained a constant temp would thus mean the remaining heater is efficient enough to heat the amount of water that is passing through it; enough to maintain 27oC.

END OFF B)

Just to add a little fuel..... I'd say one of them is doing all the work ! -_-

well you have just answered you own ?

one heater is enouth to heat up the tank as long as water is passing over one hearter then the tank will get to the right temp it will just take longer as you have slowed down the flow rate throught the heater buy sending a un even amoutn of water therough each heater

if you put a stray bar on both the returns that go to the heater they wouldnt be pushing out the same flow the filter will pump more water throw the shorter fastest route to get to were its going

at the end of the day if your happy with and it fooling you into thinking that its working thats ok but it was a bit of a waste of money in my mind

Hmmm bit pointless in my eyes aswell..

by making the water go through alot more corners than needed your reducing the flow rate significantly and thus reducing the efficiency of your filter.

The point of having them inline and both not heating is rubbish. If water passes through the first heater at 26, just that heater isn't going to be able to bring it back up to 27, where as if you had 2 inline 1 heaters going to raise it maybe .5 then so will the next raising the temp back up to 27 in 1 smooth move, your way the slightly colder water has to go through the filter all over again to get up to the desired temperature.

I'm a sump man myself and will not go back to having heaters in my bigger tanks again.
