are there any external filters that you can adjust the flow rate of water leaving the spray bar,as i would like an external, but would not want excessive water flow going around my tank due to my very fine eco complete substrate, plants and co2.

What I tend to do is extend the spray bars and add more holes, or enlarge the existing ones, that way the flow through each hole is less violent as the overall flow from the filter is returning over a greater area. I then angle the bar so that the return flows down the back wall behind the planting so I don't get much surface movement which would otherwise knock the CO2 out.

The Eheims I use do not have flow limiters. If, after modding you still have too much flow, then you probably have a filter too large for your rig.

depends on what external filter you buy ion my one there is a flow limiter which would be perfect for you.

any of the fluval filters should do ya but buy off ebay i would reccomend as they are about a quarter of the price

any chance of letting me know what filter you have

I know that the aqua one external filter range have the flow limiter/restrictor on it, but if you buy one and it doesnt have one, otherwise, Lateral Line had a good suggestion.
