Just remarking on the fluval 305, i have one of thoughs and i haven't had mine long but working ok, its not dead quiet but ok and has good output. The only downside i have found so far is the locking clip that connects the pipes to the filter which i dont like and the self primer does not work.

If the self primer doesn't work you can always resort to... opening the aqua stop valve assuming flow has stopped from the siphon... hold it over a bucket it and suck it through (mmmmm!) and then once it flows close the valve place on filter open valve. Everythings good, I had to do that a few times with my Fluval 205 it just refused to prime sometimes.
