Hi all,
I'm thinking of moving from internal to external filters for my 2 big tanks (see signature for sizes).

For the Cory breeding tank I'm after a grade A filtration unit, so what do people recommend?

On the whole which is the easiest to use, easiest to set up, easiest to maintain, best filtration etc etc.
I've had a look at the external filters that have been talked about on this site, but the ones I'm reading about in the UK are Penn-Plax and Tetratec which dont appear on the list in this section.

Does anyone have any hanging around that they dont use anymore perhaps or at least know of reputable retailers that I can get in touch with?

Thanks in advance for the advice given.

eheim is the best hands down, but very expensive, tetratec also do very good filters, but the media needs rearranging a bit once you have it, fluval are also good now but used to have problems on earlier models, go on this site www.zooplus.co.uk they have a good range of external filters for very reasonable prices and the postage is free on orders over £29, also have you read the pinned article on external filter reviews, that is also very helpful and most of the models are on there.

There is a pinned thread with people saying there experiences on them at the top of this page, i use fluval for last 3/4yrs both internals and externals no probs.

:) didnt mean to slate fluval their standards have improved a LOT since the 04 ranges, i use a JBL cristal profi 500 myself, i cant knock it, been a great filter, and does an amazing job, everytime i clean it im surprised how much dirt the sponges remove from the water..

I have read the experiences thread thanks guys as I put (very badly) in my initial post.

The zooplus is extraordinarily good value fozziebear - great find.

I used the 05 series which would take me past the the bad lot of 04's as everyone says, i hate it though because people don't give them a second chance, i definatley wouldn't look back on one so far and some people just follow suit if they have an ehiem even if they haven't had a fluval before!
