I'm after an external filter for my tank (about 300l) can anyone recommend one for me? If so do you know a website that will sell it? Cheers guys. ;)

For me, the only externals worth considering are Eheim's, although there will be many that have other opinions.

I'm sure Monty at TriMar will happily sell you one!

I just got a Filstar xp1 canister from Rena. So far it is working great, my tank has never looked so clear. It was easy to set up and you can choose your own media. I got mine on ebay for $35.00 US.

I use fluval.....which i have had no probs with.....like moe said check ebay for external filters will be alot cheaper.

Ehiem all the way for me I'm afraid they're brilliant filters and last for years, if anything goes wrong you can also buy new parts for them.

The cheapest I've found in the uk so far is Aquatics Warehouse they're an online dealer and always have good deals on, the ehiems on their website are actually cheaper than the fluvals in my lFS and they come with all substrate and fittings.

Eheim cannisers all the way for me. Got mine second hand with a tank for a steal. They are the 'classic' style cannisters and work with various types of media and are fantastic! :D

Got to be eheims, if you have the cash go for one of the new Thermo PRO II models, does away with the need for a heater in the tank too as it heats the water while it passes through the filter.

I like the TetraTec models for that same reason. Keeps things nice & Clean. Internal Heater that you don't have to hang off the back thats heating the water as filtered.
