Hi guys just bought a aqua manta efx 400 external filter my water inlet pipe only reaches half way down my tank does it have to be near the bottom just above my sand or is this fine if not can you buy a extension peice cheers

Mine is about 4 inches off the bottom of the tank and whilst a lot of retailers do say to have it in the bottom 3rd of the tank, I personally wouldn't worry too much about it unless you've got large tank with a small filter. What size is the tank?

Hi thank you for your response and it is a 4ft tank running 2 filters neither of the intake pipes are at bottom only half way down the tank cheers

Hi

Mine a 3rd up from the bottom and when i went to my LFS this weekend all there were at that height but what i did nothice was at the LFS all there heater were right next to the intake pipe anyone put theirs there i have mine directly under my spray bar theory being that the warmed water would rise into the current and disperse better.

It doesnt really matter, as long as its around the middle of the tank, ish. Its a pain for water changes if its too high as the syphon wil break easily. Dont concern yourself about it. AS long as there is good water flow in the tank, will be fine :)

I use an external heater very good and leaves more spar in my tank overall does the job and I think it looks better so your intake pipe is fine been half way up your tank was going to look for an adapter to make the pipe longer so It would sit closer to the substrate but if its fine all just leave it as it is cheers
