Hi all,

I’m looking to buy a new External Filter for my 40-60galon tank (not 100% sure as it was given to me) I’ve been recommended http://www.aquaone.co.uk/filter_external.php

The
Aquis CF External Pressure Filters
External pressurised filters offer a far superior level of both mechanical and biological filtration. The quality of Aqua One Aquis CF Filters is evident for all to see, but what really makes them stand above other filters is the silent operation and deep thorough filtering power.
Its about £60 trying to look for free postage also.

If anyone can recommend anything else that’s decent about the same price

My tank is hexagonal (40-60Galon)

I would happily recommend the Tetratec EX600. It filters 60 - 120 litres and you can get one for as little as £43.99 from ZooPlus (german company). That price includes the initial £3 off discount for being a new customer, and is free shipping (over £30). Seems they are out of stock, could go with the EX700 but thats a little larger but still a good price. I just bought the EX700 from them and I'm very happy with both the filter and the service.

let me throw another good filter in the mix
for that sized tank I'd try a JEBO 825
it has a 100lph and a 3 stage filtration.
best thing is it is only £39.95 atm at charterhouse aquatics

I personally run the jebo 809 and have absolutely no problems whatsoever with this filter
and great service from charterhouse for spare (media, impellors etc)

Okay thanks all , does anyone have the Aqua One Aquis 500 filter? Id rather spend £60 on a really decent filter

TeraTecs very good then?

i cant make up my mind ... still looking towards the Aqua One as ive seen it first hand , it just seems a nice bit of kit

Fluval 405 any good?

Look no further than the Tetratecs.

I have a large tetra tech and it works great BUT and its a big but the valves are crap and iv had two snap on me. Lucky enough my lfs replaced them free even though id had it a year. I must admit i prefer Eheim purely because they rarely go wrong and are so robust when it comes to cleaning them. Try an ecco you should get a decent one for ur money on the net, or if u still preper tetratec ( which do the job very well ) make sure you get 2 spare valve components as the connectors are very brittle and slowly the lugs will snap.

anyway gl, darren

Can anyone direct me to a link to have a look at the ecco ?

www.google.co.uk !!! LOL

Heres a cutaway...

I challenge you to find a bad word about Eheim, they are German, and run forever - Im a picky so and so when it comes to noise... coming from what I thought were silent internal filter, when I first got a Eheim cannister I was always double checking it was ON ! They ARE that quiet.
Yer pays yer money and yer teks yer choice, as they say.... but I wouldnt buy anything else again.

i know about Google :p , but id rather use a site that people know and have had a good experance with.

Well i have heard that the Ecco , is quite taccy and the valves break .... quite easy... German does not mean they are that good :p
