I have a 2 month old Fluval Duo 800 tank and am getting concerned about the effectiveness of the internal filter it came with. The tank currently holds 4 clown loach, 5 tiger barbs and a clown plec and the filter media needs cleaning thoroughly almost weekly. I'm not adverse to the cleaning duties but my plans for the tank are to replace the barbs with 4 angel fish, 4/5 dwarf gourami's and 4/5 dutch/german blue rams and an L001 plec.

My worries are that the internal filter will not be able to cope so I'm thinking about external filtration, either a Fluval 204 or an Eheim equivelant. I like the features of the Fluval but I know that the Eheim range are good also.

Any info greatly appreciated.

So, freshmike gets all the replies huh!?!

Doesnt anyone want to reply to my specific question :(

I have Fluvals and Eheim, and the fluvals are worth the money, being so much cheaper, but the Eheim is truly a superior filter in effectiveness and quality, and is also quiet (the fluval is quiet, the eheim is silent). I highly recommend the Eheim Classic.
