anyone know if its possible to get an exernal filter for a 180litre tank for under £30 ?

in urgent need of help, have little money and need an external filter before i go mad and just sell the entire set up i have, im running out of patience with my filter keep coming off the tank wall.

i was up at 1am, 2am 4am and 5am putting the stupid thing back in place as it kept coming off and floating to the surface.

what was floating back up to the surface? Is it an internal?

if so, which model and how have you attached it inside the tank?

.....you MIGHT be able to find an external for £30 second hand - but they tend to hold their value pretty well (especially the bigger brand names). Have a hunt though!

sorry, I have a bluwave 07 filter that has just cycled after about 3/4 weeks water readings are perfect and crystal clear. but about a week ago it started popping off the back of the tank - was held on with double sided suction caps. so I ordered 10 x 20mm caps to replace them and it still comes off it floats up to its below the min level and kicks all kind of dirt back into my tank along with loads of bubbles. at present it is weighed down with a bowl full of stones on top so I cant put my light unit on, (juwel rio 180 bow front tank) this is because I have seriously lost the plot with this filter.

dont want to silicone / cement it because my long term plan is to replace it with an external anyway but i have just had a £400 bill for a car repair so I have very little money left.

also im going away for 3 days next weekend so dont want to risk anything happening to my filter while im not home and coming back to a tank of dead fish

it got to the point that at 3am this morning I seriously considered just tanking the filter out and taking all the fish back to the LFS this morning before draining the tank to sell it because its annoyed me so much

I'm not familiar with that filter - but I'm surpised that it's boyant - not a great design feature for something that is supposed to sit underwater!

maybe there is a fair amount of air trapped inside - is that possible?

possibly, i think im going to take all the material out of it,and put it back together again, there is supposed to be some clips that you can use that go over the edge of the tank but these didnt come with mine (it was second hand came with the tank) and I cant find replacements for it.

would you recommend draining the tank to say 50% before re-mounting it to take the water preasure away ?

if theres air in the filter just turn it upside down in the water untill all the airs out.

ahhh, then that may indeed be the issue.

I have an aquaone Aquis 700 that i was going to list in the classified section?

where abouts are you ? the fluval im looking at is withing 10 miles of my home so I could fetch it today for very little cost of petrol

how much was you going to list yours for ?

I got it for 1/2 price at one of my local fish shops, paid £35 so would list it for less than that, im based in Coventry though.
