Hi Everyone,

I'm new to this forum and would like some help with external filters please.

Firstly is there anyone out there who has a Fluval Roma 90 and has managed to find an external filter to fit in the cabinet? All the filters i've seen don't seem to fit through the door opening :-(

Secondly if it's not possible to fit one in the cabinet, i'll have to stand it next to the cabinet so im not sure which one to get. I've read lots of reviews online and most people seem to prefer the Ehiems but they are a little out of my price range, I've looked at the Tetra Tec EX700 which I can get for £60 but have now seen the Fluval 305 for £69. As the Fluval is a lot more powerful I am tempted by it but i've heard very mixed views, some people saying they are noisey and leak others love them.

Any help and advice anyone could give me would be great.

Thanks!

I have the 305 on my Roma 200 and it's silent and doesn't leak.

Won't the 105 or 205 fit in the cabinet?

If your talking about the cabinet that comes with the fluval roma 90 then I believe the 105 will fit in just about, apparently the dimensions of the 105 are 6.5, 7.5 and 10.5 inches.
The dimensions for the 205 are 6.5, 7.5 and 13 inches I believe (you will have to check this) so it's only 1.5 inches higher. I measured my width of the opening at the back of my Roma 90 cabinet and it's 7.8 inches. So in theory it should fit. Also the widest part is the top cap which you can take off and could put them in separately.
The fluval 305 won't fit in but i don't think you need that powerful of one arnt they for 200 to 300 litres?
Doesn't the problem lie in trying to fit the tubes through into the tank through them two holes they might be too small you may have to widen them?

Yes, James is right you will have to do some DIY to get the pipework into the tank. There was another thread on here recently with the same issues.
If i can find it i will post it up for you.
Skins.

Hello, heres the thread i mentioned in my last post.

Thanks for the advice everyone,

My Roma has the cut outs in the hood so thankfully i won't have to take a saw to anything.

The main reason I was looking at the Fluval 305 was because I had been told the bigger the better and I have seen the 305 for the same price as the 205 model :)
