My Tetras haven't been eating lately so I went to the pet store and asked for help. They told me my house is too cold during the winter months and I need to get a heater for the tank. They must be in dormant mode since the house gets down to almost 50 degrees F at night. Now you all probably think I'm an idiot in that I didn't get a heater sooner, and I feel awful for letting the poor fishies get so cold, but I'm hoping to fix this problem soon!

Anyways, I bought the heater and my only problem is that I don't have enough plugs for the heater, the light and the filter. Are extension cords way to dangerous to use with fish tanks? Should I tape said extension cord to the wall so it doesn't accidentally get spilled on?

Extension cords are fine for fish equipment, as they draw so little power. :good: I am sure everyone uses one!

I have double sockets, extensions and cables all over the place! Just keep the water off them and don't operate them with wet hands and you will be fine. At 50 degrees farenheit, I'd be bloody cold!

I'm scared to use extension cords for the television set because I hear they are such a fire hazard!

But even after only an hour with the heater on the little guys seem to be doing so much better! Swimming around like little champs!

If you are bringing in power for just one item, use it on the filter. Filters use almost no power so the current in that cord will be minimal.

I use one and no problems as of yet so long as you have a drip curve in the wires
