Exodons

The more the merrier, otherwise you might just end up with one, they are like extreme tiger barbs. Though 10 sounds about right with that filtration, I had figured you only had one internal. If you can get a few more at the LFS then feel free, I wouldn't have more than about 15 unless you have an external however.

The bristlenose is at risk, but should be OK if he has hiding places.

They will eat pretty much anything as you will soon find out. In nature they would eat mainly the scales of other fish, but wouldn't pass up if a bug or chunk of fruit came floating by.

As with most fish, a flake or pellet based diet is best (provides all the vitamins and minerals they need) and you can frequently supplement with bloodworms, prawns, live bugs like crickets and frozen whitebait.

If you go for more of them, it's better to stick to mainly flake as this will be better for the water conditions.

thanks for the response

the tank is very well planted...see my sig! have 3 bits of bogwood and plenty of slate etc....i could move my BN into my other tank....

what other bottom dwellers could i put in with them that would be safe?

yea i have 2 internals, but could upgrade to an external but its unlikely!

i love my BN so dont want him to be at risk

Well pretty much anything is at some risk...

Any tank mates should be of the kind that keep to them selves and are good at hiding, and should go in the tank before the exodons.

I've heard of corys being OK, but since they are quite active and like to dart to the surface every now and then, I wouldn't try.

Things like banjo catfish and plecs are the safest bet. Before you get the exodons, you could add a load of cherry shrimp to the tank too. They will hide a lot, but add alittle bit of extra interest to the tank, and any eaten should be replaced by babies as they breed fast.

cheers.....my BN hides quite a bit but i have a sandy patch at the front and he often likes to lounge there.....but he may hide

was thinking of adding a nother small pleco as well, maybe another BN or something a bit more colourfull like a flash pleco...

cant wait to get the exodons now....pretty excited

right having trouble finding anywhere that sells them......

any idea where may have some available have tried all my local LFS....

When I was thinking about getting them I too ran into the problem of sourcing them. If your LFS cannot order them in for you (ask nicely and some will do this for you - never hurts to ask), then I'd look at mail order companies. I asked wildwoods and trimar, both said they could get them, but they weren't the cheapest of fish (I would need 30 or so for the tank I was stocking). I think both wildwoods and trimar said they would cost £7 each for orders over 10, but I'm going back a year or so, so prices might have changed. I also rang up Wharf Aquatics in nottingham, they could do orders over 10 for £6 I think, but I'm not familiar with shops of the south east so I can only really recommend phoning around, failing that consider asking mail order fish companies.

cheers! quick reply!

yea looking for 12-15 fish....will try a few further a field shops...what mail order companies are there?

The ones I tried were Wildwoods and Trimar, these seem to be the most popular. There are others but I'm not sure of their reliability, so I'd start with these two first, if that proves unsuccessful then perhaps look further afield.

thanks shroob....

if i cant find them....i may settle for dwarf puffers or one of nellys dwarf snakeheads...but i got my heart set on this little 'uns
