I've been thinking, would it be a good idea to make my fish do some work outs? I got the idea by being so hideously stupid you'll all want to kill me for cruelty to fish but honestly I didn't mean to.

This morning when I got up and I mean like 5 mins after so I was still half asleep I seperated Ciaphas my male betta because he looked a little off it I put him in a see threw bucket with some water out of the tank. I added a little salt as I was told it could help a sick fish I then noticed the salt hadn't desolved... :/ So I stirred it rapidly then noticed a little blue thing swimming for all his worth in a whirlpool I had created :crazy: I then came up with idea.

So would it be a good idea to spin the water round obviously not so fast this time to get em swimming and burn off some of that fat (mostly Jim my male platy since he eats everything I put in).

Yah, I think that would just stress your fish out... If you have a fat fish, you could put it in a quarantine tank and just put the thing on a diet (I've done that before!).

Tropjunky, let me assure you--it is VERY possible to get fat fish!!! My mom has a fat goldfish, I once got a really fat male guppy, and even had to put a very obese zebra danio on a diet. You can get fat fish--just ask anyone who owns a Pictus cat.

Ya I have fat platies: and I once had a morbidly obese goldfish.

I think people in countries that fight bettas use a similar method to train and condition their bettas for fights. I could be wrong though. -_-

Fat fish are more common than people think. And no, I wouldn't "exercise" my fish. They swim all day by themselves without any help from me.

thats really not good for the fish.
What's not good for your fish? Exercise? In and of itself exercise is fine. Forcing them too by "whirpooling" the water is probably not good.

let ur fish be fat
This is also not good for your fish and you need to do something to help prevent this. Basically put them on a diet, not force them to exercise.

Wrong there.

One of the most important guidelines in fishkeeping is that underfeeding is always better than overfeeding. A hungry fish is a healthy fish. But dont starve them!!!

i'd think my fish does enough exercise by thsemleves :D flipping those front fins 24/7 must be tiring!
