I've read a lot of you guys posts and the general consensus is that when you buy a new fish you should put it in a quarentine tank for about a week to make sure it isn't sick etc.

Problem is I don't have a quarentine tank and have NO chance of actually getting one  .....for various reasons.....main one being my girlfriend would kick my butt :/

Anyway when I buy a new fish I'm guessing I float the plastic bag of fish in the tank for 10 mins until the temp equalises and then I open the bag and let the fish out but do I empty the bag into a net over the sink to get rid of the lfs tank water and just put the fish into my tank or can just open the bag and let the fish swim out on it's own but allow the lfs tank water to mix with mine?

Thx for all the help so far guys. :D

I, personally don't add lfs water to my tanks.......you never know for sure that their water isn't carrying something nasty.

I never add the water from the bag to my tank either, as said it greatly increases the chance of releasing a disease into your tank.

If the LFSs water is 'diseased' in some way then its more than likely your new fish/es would also carry the disease. I personally consider making sure that I always check the quality of the LFS, then the fishes I'm buying before I go ahead with the purchase.

As for adding the LFS water into the tank, like everything else there is always a potential risk from disease/infection. The risk is really up to you to balance.

I am lucky my Girlfriend works in my LFS, so i know the tanks i kept in well order, and if there is a bad tank she will tell me.
