Hi,

Put some new plants into DP tank yesterday.I washed them throughly.Just had to resue one of the Crachetts , it was being attacked by a white bug.We managed to net him and get bug off with a pair of tweezers.Would post pic but bug gor squashed.

It was white , big head long body six legs and a pincer about 5mm long.
Any ideas what it was ?I am off to scan tank to see if anymore.

DP's are called to "the assorted small Crachetts", a quote from Charles Dickens, A Christmas Carol, "Give my regards to Mrs Crachett and the assorted small Crachetts"

Sounds like it was probably a dragon fly larvae, nasty beasts that can and will eat small fish!

Hi,

Thanks , any ideas how to get rid or do I just have to keep my eye open and take them out

just closely watching really.

I'm not sure what would kill them but if you put any new plants in a strong anti parasite dip then anything bad should be killed. a strong salt bath might do it aswell.

I would shy away from the "strong salt bath" that would cause the fluids from the plant to be drawn into the "salt bath" and would result in the plant dying. Water has the tendecy to be drawn from a low salt concentration to a high concentration, through the cell wall of the plant called osmosis.

If you get live plants, I would isolate them in a quarenteen tank for a few days until all unwanted "critters" deside to show themselves.
