I can't understand it, I have a couple of demending plants doing awesome along with allmy others doing great but my swords and pygmy chain swords are getting yellow ish leaves and brown ptches then each leaf dies? The plants doesn't die but random leaves do, I have co2 tpn+ regular water changes I dunno what to do?

Oh and then the apple snails go and have a munch

hi,

Am no expert but you prob need to add an iron suppliment, I always get rid of any leafs that show signs of melting or damage - i have had snail probs in the past, killed all i could see and cut down on the feed going in. this worked well for me.

there are some great pinned pieces of advise on dosing here as well.

hope this helps

Matt.

You have TPN+? and liquid carbon? They should be fine. If they're newly planted and you havn't already removed the outerleaves, they will die, they always do.. if it isn't that, then I have no idea

i agree with Si, this plant takes a while to take. They melt like theres no tomorrow.

As per the above. no extra iron needed. The plant will take time to get into its surroundings. Once it does its gonna take the tank over. lol

Cool thanks, liquid carbon? never heard of it lol I use TPN+ and Plant Gro, well I'll keep an eye and see what happens.

I have read in many places that amazonian swords are heavy root feeders. I struggled to grow some swords in my old 29 gal until I tossed some root tabs under them and they took off.

Just a possibility.

Bit of a myth to be honest mate. Although I'm sure this myth will still get repeated over and over throughout the years so other folks will believe it's true.
Swords are actually one of the most vigorous of water column feeders. You can grow them fantastically in inert gravels with good nutrient dosing into the water column.

True indeed. If its got leaves and it has a choice it is going to take from the water column through its leaves. Takes less energy than from through its roots.

Agreed with above. My Swords will send roots over the bottom of the whole tank! but I have never put any root tablets in, just the occassional ferts. Just need time to settle in.

(When pulling these plants out, most of the tank bottom will move significantly!)

Well some of the large swords look better but there is still the odd yellowish browning on the leaves and my pygmy's still don't look great but they are shooting runners everywhere, guess all I can do is keep watch for now.
