Evaporating Water

hi all,

i recently purchase a small 28litre open top fish tank http/www.petsathome.com/shop/fluval-chi-aquarium-set-25l-%28available-in-store-only%29-78653 and every two days i am loosing water through evaporation.

i am thinking of making a lid for this, it will spoil the affect totally

i also wondered if everytime i top it up with a pint and half of water do i need to put some kind of fish safe product in the water??? or would it be safe enough to put normal tap water in the tank?

i have been putting solution in the water but obviously am going to end up going through a lot of this everytime im topping it up

this fluval chi does have a lid on the market, though not all pet stores supply them, if you have a word with a manager at ur LFS im sure you will be able to get them to get an order in from hagen, they only cost around a 5er too.
