Ok, so some of you may know about the tank I had at work where I rescued 3 rummy nosed tetras and 4 harlequin rasboras, which died pretty quickly as a reult of shock and new/old (lways get confused) tank syndrome....

I did head counts, and they were all missing, fished out by me after they had died. I left the tank running and aimed to do a fishless cycle but then my boss yelled at me, had me in tears and told me to take the tank down. This was last week...

I left the tank up, kept putting the light on to try and show it was pretty and maybe persuade him to let me keep it (or get someone else to back me up)... but this morning I was so disheartened, I turned everything off and prepared to take everythng out.

I picked up 1 piece of mopani root, and saw a flicker, but thought "oh, its the light reflecting off the water"... I picked up the next piece of mopani and out shot a rummy nosed tetra :hyper: How did I miss it????

It's been in there, alone and hiding, for over a week alone, without food and without coming out to show itself. I'm so happy!!!

I told the evil boss that the tank had to stay until the fish had died, as it was only fair, and he had no arguement for it.

So what do I do...? Do I rehome her? Do I buy more rummys and get ready for a verbal battering off my boss? ARGH! I don't know what to do! I'm just so happy one survived!

Does anyone want an old lonely rummy?

Willow

I'd say try to rehome her.
Hopefully you can try to find someone nearby with some more rummies in need of a friend :good:

Yea rehome the poor thing. Sounds like your boss is a bit of a £%*# & will probably aske you to remove the tank in the near future. If you cant find a home for the rummy, how about taking it to a LFS?

I'm really glad for you! :hyper: Poor fella must've been very lonely.

If I were you I'd love to keep it but if it means getting screamed at by your boss... Maybe rehoming would be a better idea.

my boss is an #17#####... I rescued these fish from the upper school (split site) so they're school property, they just weren't being looked after, so it's not as if the school is paying for extra electricity. if anything they're paying less as I have a 50w smaller heater and a smaller in tank filter rather than the humongous external one that they originally had. There is also no air pump (the filter agitates the surface really nicely if you set it to the "minimum water level".

Now I've disturbed and fed her, she seems pretty open now... she's been swimming around all day and "hovering" in the current of the filter and playing with her reflection in the glass. So sweet.

How do I go about asking LFS's to take her? I've never had to do this so I don't know what to say. I kinda don't want to stress her out by trying to catch her again, so maybe tank mates would be better? Although I'm not 100% on whether this tank is suitable for rummys.. I think it needs to be bigger :S

I'm happy that she's alive, but I'm sad because she's alone. I only want to help (which is why I rescued them in the first place).
