When I setup my 8g planted nano, I decided to go with Erethistes jerdoni for something different. I was initially a tad concerned as the articles I read indicated that they do not like a high nitrate environment, but they are currently doing quite well in this CO2 injected planted tank. I like them a great deal. Anybody else keep them?

Here are a couple of shots of mine from around December. They share the tank with Boraras merah, B. maculatus, and Limnopilos naiyanetri. Very cute. All my tanks are kept without heaters, so they are in cooler water. They took the 62 degree house temperature in early January in stride. They also take the prepared pellets (hikari micro pellets) without a problem.

Thanks for looking. Let me know your own experiences with this little guys. I have seen them on websites as either "Mini moth" catfish or "Dwarf Anchor" catfish. They also go under the name Hara jerdoni, but I think the scientific name I'm using is more up-to-date.

I'd like to eventually try the larger species, Erethistes hara, in my 36g. Platies need to live out their natural lifespans, though.

WOW!!!! what an amazing tank :D That stock list is fantastic, never kept them before but always been interested in them (like the rest of your tank) How active are these?

Thank you very much. As for the rest of the stock list, the Erethistes have proven to be the most hardy of the group. I've lost some of the Boraras (filter intake, high CO2) and I'm down to three crabs, but I think the crabs were my fault actually. The three that remain are in great shape and I'm actually looking for me. I think one was carrying eggs a while back, but I doubt any babies will emerge because of the E. jerdoni.

The anchor cats are more active than I anticipated. They swim funny because of the fins, but they are fun to watch. They will spend some time resting on the Hydrocotyle leaves.

It really is a stunning tank, Ive been considering a similar kind of set up with pygmy everything. Trying to make a bit of an example of just how diverse small tanks can be rather than the standard stuff and this is really really making it hard for me not to now lol..... Any chance of some more pics ? :D

Again, thank you. I am so busy with work, that I really do much better with smaller tanks. Less buckets to carry! I also have problems with the fish stores in my area. Same old, same old, or sooooooo line bred that they look nothing like the original species. I get my livestock now from a vendor who specializes in selling fish that look like they are supposed to look. Some neat species come in.

Are those real plants in the tank in your signature? If so, you should come check out the Planted section at TFF.

This is a link to my journal for this tank. If you like pictures, then you'll be quite satisfied. I go into a lot of detail.

Where do you get them from? Ive started to make contact with a few of the auction groups in the UK and managing to get a few "spares" from breeding projects got a lovely Heros Severus - Orinoco coming on Saturday which is lucky :) But these groups mainly focus on cichlids, I really want some unusual catfish for my tank but not a clue where to get them from

The plants are real but all easy grow though I do need some advice on some simple kind of ferts as some of the valis I have is falling apart :/ annoying but then again if this new sev devours the tank I wont need it haha

As far as UK vendors for the anchor cats are concerned, I am in the US, so I wouldn't know.

Now, you are luckier for good fertilisers. TPN and TPN+ are very good. TPN+ has added macro nutrients. It is made by Aqua Essentials? That is where I get mine from. Yep, I ship it all the way from the UK to Miami, FL. Expensive, but worth it for me. It is very easy to work with.

Ah right cool thanks for that! I need to get some new food for the tank so Ill have a look at getting some of that. Got the new sev in and plants seem to have survived so Ill see what happens ;)
