Is the cleartides overflow box good? Is it reliable at restarting the syphon?

Yup. Its a 2000 LPH one and yes it auto resumes if the power goes out / self primed (once you prime it initially). [URL="http/www.cleartides.com/"]http/www.cleartides.com/[/URL]

I'm thinking of adding a sump to a tank I will buy - but it isn't drilled - do you think this overflow will be just as good?

try your local reef club. They may drill your tanks very cheap/

My overflow works fine. I just check the top of the box every couple of days to see if there are any air bubbles. If there are.... I just suck them out and get a gob full of lovely sea water and fish poo
