My new tank will be here later this week, its a 190L (77 us gallons) once set up there will be a BN plec, Clown plec, Rubbernose and a leopardfrog plec! Now my mum has a very big common plec that she wants me to take off her hands, is there enough room and how will they get on?

Sorry should be 290L (77 us gallons) :blush:

190 = 50Gallons.
No you dont have the space for the large common, I dont know what you should do with it sorry :(

It's easier to go on dimensions than capacity with big plecs - if the tank is smaller than 4ft x 18" x 18", it is too small for a common plec. Obviously with the other plecs too, you'd have to make that even bigger to give enough room for territories. :good:

Sorry should be 290L (77 us gallons)!

im confused by the tank specs tbh! Its a Rena Aqualife corner unit W120cm x H74cm X D86cm. The total volume is 379L and the volume capacity is 290L so what is the actual volume?? There is a difference of 89L which seems alot!

120cm long by 86cm wide and 74cm high?
According to PFK it is;

Dimensions 120 x 86 x 74cm/47" x 34" x 29
Surface area 1.03 sqm/11.09 sq ft/ inches sq in
Volume 764 l./168 gal. (201.83 US gal.)
Probable volume 688 l./151 gal. (182 US gal.)

:thumbs:

That cant be right - according to that it's bigger than my 180g 6 x 2 x 2 lol. Methinks PFK got it wrong!

Yeah on second look it does look wrong. Lol, well i guess there's a first time for everything even for PFK. Does anyone know any reliable tank dimension gallon calculators or can add up such stuff?

I'm no expert at maths, in fact I suck big time but I think you'll find that is right..

You should be able to do it yourself (I think)...as 10cmx10cmx10cm =1ltr, if I remember rightly. By my calculations it's 763 litres in total.

You have to remember it ten inches wider than the 6ft tank which makes a big difference when it runs the full length of a 4ft tank, plus it's 5" higher also which adds quite a lot of extra water too..

but hey I suck at maths...so this could all be utter crap.

Might explain the subsequent equations being wrong *lol*.

I was just about to point out the same as I was scrolling down :)

Looking at the piccy HERE

You loose the corner off the back of the tank - so although the volume the tank takes up physically (eg room space) is 379l, once the back corner is chopped off you'll loos quite a bit of water volume

Our common is in our Juwel eqivalent to that ;) - But hes not as big as commons can get... hes 12" max... (I'll have to measure one day)
