I am pritty sure the good looking rams are male, and the dull looking are female, One easy way to tell.

Actually, that's not usually the case with Rams. The main way to tell the difference in male and female rams is that the females have a pinkish belly. There are some other differences in fin lengths, but the rest of the body coloring is generally the same between the males and the females.

I haven't heard anything about Gold Rams being more sensitive than Blue Rams, but they're both pretty delicate - the Gold Ram is a man made color variation of the Blue.

The Balloon Ram is a man made strain and comes in both the Gold and the Blue and is even more delicate than the regular rams.

Bolivian Rams are generally considered to be a little hardier than the Blue/Gold Rams but get a little bigger and are not as colorful.

Parker's right on the mark. Just to add, Balloon females DON'T sport the pink belly color the regulars do. There's supposed to be a different visible difference but, I'm not sure what it is.

my newest find, German Blue Rams that were spawned and raised locally in a ph of 8.2 I've seen the parents and they are SPECTACULAR. These guys are from 1/2" to 1" long....just babies

I also have Kribensis (Pelvicachromis pulcher), but can't seem to find my pics right now

YEAH COKUTOIDES!!!! I so want one, and the LFs always have. I just don't want squabling between rams and cockatoos for territory.

Oh my, I saw some blue rams today at the lfs, and wow, they are even prettier in person!! They were just little guys/girls though, but so beautiful.
