Where do i start, I started my guppie tank about 18 months ago went to my local lfs and asked for 4 female guppies and 2 male when i came home i noticed that the male looked different to what i thought was normal male guppies. he looks alot like an endler, but with a tail that forks off, is this an endler? he has similar colourings to endlers but all the ones i have googled have rounded tails. Can anyone shed some light on this. By the wat have have loads of guppie cross this maybe endler fry if any one would like some.

Here is what endlers look like

Problem is in lfs now most are croeesed with guppies and has ruined the straine.

Class N wild stock. If you can post a pic, I can probably tell. Most likely in the tank frm lfs it is either hybrid or a more colorful wild guppy.

yes he looks like the last one but his tail is longer, When you say have ruined the strain what does a female look like. Like i said i asked for male guppies and i ended up with him. But he has had some lovely looking fry.

I will get my husband to take a photo of him in the morning. He is tucked up in bed now

yes i bet they did, endlers crossed with guppies creates many lovely colours, but most serious breeders dont like to mix their strain with guppies, especially the weak ass ones now a days

You can also get some long ass swords out of pure endlers. I have had many of them. And mine are pure, registered breeder on ERU.

I feel like i have let him down abit now and should have found him a proper mate, but he is a old boy now he is about 18 months old now. he is still lively and chasing the girls, but he is an old man  but when you say long swords, mine is long top and bottom.

Heres a few of my Lyretail guppies which actually came from a red male and clear female guppy, so one may of had endler in them somewhere
A young male:

Big male: his tail has about 1.5cm extentions

And my Endlers:

Each has forked tail as you described, so he maybe a lyretail guppy

The lyretail looks to be full blooded guppies. We can purchase those at petsmart any day of the week,

I think you are right lilfishie mine looks alot like your lyretail guppies. I went to one of my local lfs and they had 2 double sworded tail guppies are they all the same ? is that just another name for lyretails. Anyway if he is a guppie i don't feel to bad about crossing the strain now.

If he looks like Susan's class Ns or like my avatar, chances are you have an endler or an endler cross. My avatar is also a class N registered endler, it's just one of mine. If it looks like the lyretail in the later pictures, I would say "pure" guppy. You can see the much sharper, more defined colors in my endler or Susan's. The less distinct patterning and softer colors in the guppies are very nice but the softer colors also shout guppy to those of us who care which one we have.

I have recently aquired 5 male endlers and I havent got any guppies either.

Would you experts have a look and see if it is pure endler or an endler cross please? Will sort out a photo now ...

With that pic its hard to tell. It could be either an endler or endler hybrid. Would need a clearer pic to tell for sure.

Sorry but being honest if u got these fron a shop then it's 95% sure to be a cross
Though it's hard to tell from the pic, although the dorsal look's to be a little to much colour.
And if the tail has extention's then thats a good clue as well.
Like susankat said some true's are producing sword's it not the norm.

Alysonpeaches, I have trouble seeing your fish in that picture. If the tail markings that look like a double sw2ord are on a clear background where it only gives the impression of a sword but is really just a round tail, it is more likely to be an endler than if they are truly tail extensions. The apparent extension on my avatar is mostly color and very little extension. The colors look a bit soft or muddy to me but it could just be the focus of the picture. The caudal peduncle also looks very thick compared to what is normal in a class N endler. You have a very nice looking fish but I'm not willing to call it a "pure" endler, I just can't tell from that shot.
