How big do Endlers get in comparrison to regular Guppies? My LFS has some and they looked very small. I think there were both males and females and I was thinking about putting a few in with my Swordies. I have not paid much attention to Endlers before since they are a sub-species of guppy and I have never been really interested in gups. The male Endlers that I saw were quite beautiful and I was thinking that a few smaller livebearers could go nice with Morris and his Harem. Now that I have 30gal housing 6 Swordies I could maybe put in a foursome of smaller fish for diversity.

I'd be concerned that the swordtails might eat them. Poecilia endleri is it's own species, it's remarkable characteristic that differentiates it from common guppies is the consistent coloration. Males all generally look the same. Males only get about an inch, females a little larger. I really like this livebearer, and they one I would actually recommend for 10g tank.

Do the tails and fins get "over-sized?", or do they remain in normal proportion to the fish size? I am not a huge fan of fancy fins and tails. I like the Swordie males Sword but Betta-type fins just do not do it for me.

At an inch I think they should be safe even from Swordies :p

Their fins are normal sized. There are several different colour variations to choose from too, try a google image search there are some very nice ones to be had.

Let me just jump in, and add, that Wild Guppies and Endlers don't look that different at all. It's all the inbreeding and everything in the Fancy Guppies that make them have big fins. If you get Feeder Guppy males, which basically haven't been altered at all, they look pretty normal. :)

I just had to say that, because Fancy Guppies are usually considered what all Guppies look like. But they don't. I'm done now, continue. :p

And Endler males get to about 3/4", females 1".

Thanks Anna! I think the Endlers may get a bit too much attention from the Orange Swordies since they are Doris's offspring and she was a bit over 4" and the "kids" are all looking like they will get at least that big.

You're welcome. I just felt I had to add that, as I think Guppies are usually taken for long-finned, fancy, weak fish, and they all aren't that way. Sorry, I couldn't help myself. :p

Yes, I wouldn't say Endlers with Swordies would be too good an idea. Anything that has even a chance of being aggressive with them, I wouldn't put them in with. Mine are pretty much little wimps. And they are somewhat delicate too. SO I think you made a good decision. :)
