Well, after the sad demise of my betta, I now have an empty tank - 10 gal, double hex (5 gal each side) I'm going to clean it out properly, just in case there's any disease lurking in it, and then I'll put something in it. Suggestions please  It has silk plants and some hidey holes in it, but no fish :(

IS that those hex tanks that are joined by a tube like this? :

I dont know how functional or kind to the fish they r, but they look pretty good! :D

That's it exactly. Not too practical at all - can't grow plants in it coz the lights aren't strong enough for them. So I've got silk plants in mine.

mmmm i've seen hex tanks but none like that before, i supose its some peeps taste but i don't like it, gadazobe how about a nice shoal of
cardinal tetras, now they would make a nice display, but you'd have to use
hardier fish first to cycle the tank.

Looks like a nice display tank :) Tetras would go in their nicely how big are the connecting pipes between the tanks can other fish go in them without getting stuck?

The tank has already cycled - the betta was in it. It just needs a major water change and it's ready. The connecting pipes are about 10-11" circumfrence - large enough for a big fish to pass thru.

Maybe u could get some guppys, neons, maybe corrys, small barbs, dwarf gouramis, etc etc (not all of them! just pick ate lol :p )

I like the idea of shell dwellers. If I can't have real plants, then I might as well have rocks and have dwarf cichlids. How many can I have in a 10g. Not a lot

Sorry Gad,
IMO the tank is to small for shellies. Shellies do best in a large size group and I don't think that is possible in this tank.

Shellies can get somewhat aggressive and need a little more room than this tank provides.

Of course there are exceptions to everything....if you do go with shellies please keep us posted as to how they do. I would be curious to know.

You could keep a good size group (up to 8) in a REGULAR size 10 gallon, but, and I hate to keep harping on this, but the tank is just not the right shape for shellies

Thats a really cool tank, where did you get it and how much do they usually cost? Ive been looking for something like that to put my fry/feeder fish/shrimp in. Kinda using it as a holding tank.

Mine was a freebie given to me by my cousing when her son got fed up fish keeping, but you can find them here: www.aquadesign.co.uk They cost about £220 Personally I would never buy one, but, hey, to get one as a freebie was really great. They're not very practical and not really suitable for the serious fishkeeper.

BTW - welcome to the board.
