Hi i have a bristlenose breeding tank which is currently empty as ive sold them all. I expect it will be about a month before the next batch, do i need to keep the heater on as well as the filter?

not much point in keeping the filter on either unless your feeding the bacteria with ammonia in which case it would be best to leave the heater on aswell

Well i don't want the bacteria to die. Ive been told I can add flakes in now and then to keep the bacteria up. Will it die in cold water then?

When I am waiting for my next batch of eggs or babies I just take the filter out and pop it in another tank to keep the bacteria going till the filter is needed.

Good idea never thought of that
