I got a 25 Gallon tall Eclipse from a yard sale the other day for $35 which was a complete steal. But I was wondering if I could put female bettas in it, and if I do how many. Right now I have 2 here, and one on the way as soon as the auction on aquabid ends. So do I wait until I have atleast 6, I heard the regular number is 6 to put in without fighting. But the tank is set up and cycled, and I did more of a cichlid set up with rocks and bricks in the tank forming caves. So are female bettas a good idea or not? I can always change it and plant it. But I don't know if I want to yet. What are your thoughts? And what is the maximum number of females that I could have in a 25 gallon tall? Or any other fish suggestions?

Edit-Upon measuring found out it was a 25 Gallon Tall instead of a 20 gallon, it's 12" x 24" x 20".

I am not sure on the maximum number you could have but I wouldn't add them until you have plants for them to hide in, and at least 4 females. If you get more at a later date, pull the ones that are in the tank, rearrange the tank, and then add all of your girls back. This way they will not have defined territories.

IMO, you could have at least 10-15 in the tank, but I could be way off on that one. Plants are really important for hiding. So are the caves, so you could incorporate plants into the current setup if you wanted. Do you have any pics?

i never had luck keeping females together.. they always fought, no matter how many hiding places i had, and how many different combo numbers i put in there... it was always a disaster

I'm hoping I will have luck with them, but more advice on this please? I want to find out soon. What's everyone else's thoughts?

well you could try 5 or 6 females together but if it doesnt work you can always get deviders and you can still have 6 females in the 25gal sepparated.
you could have males if you devide the tank.
